Terms of Service

Last updated: March 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using CA Power Outages ("the Service") at capoweroutages.com or the CA Power Outages iOS app, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

CA Power Outages is a real-time power outage tracking service for California. The Service aggregates publicly available outage data from California utility companies including PG&E, SCE, SDG&E, SMUD, and LADWP via the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) ArcGIS data feed.

The Service is provided for informational purposes only. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of outage data. Always refer to your utility company's official communications for authoritative outage information.

3. Free and Premium Plans

The Service offers a free tier and a premium subscription ("Premium") at $2.00 USD per month.

  • Free tier includes access to the live outage map and basic outage details.
  • Premium includes push notifications, transmission grid overlay, statewide alerts, and synced settings across devices.
  • Premium subscriptions include a 7-day free trial for new subscribers.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew monthly unless cancelled.
  • Subscriptions purchased through the iOS App Store are subject to Apple's billing terms.
  • Subscriptions purchased on the web are billed via Stripe.

4. Cancellation and Refunds

You may cancel your Premium subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you will retain access to Premium features until then.

We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us at support@capoweroutages.com within 30 days of the charge.

5. User Accounts

You may create an account using Apple Sign In or Google Sign In. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. You may not share your account credentials with others.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to scrape, crawl, or systematically download Service data
  • Reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the Service
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that outage data will be accurate or current. Power outage data is sourced from third-party public feeds and may be delayed or incomplete.

Do not rely solely on CA Power Outages for emergency decisions. Always contact your utility company or local emergency services directly in an emergency.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CA Power Outages and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

9. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will notify registered users of material changes via email.
