1. Information We Collect

When you use CA Power Outages, we may collect the following information:

  • Account information — email address and name provided through Apple Sign In or Google Sign In
  • Location data — if you enable location-based alerts, we store the coordinates of your saved locations to send relevant outage notifications
  • Device token — APNs device token for sending push notifications on iOS
  • Subscription status — whether you have an active Premium subscription, and via which platform (Apple or Stripe)
  • Usage data — standard web analytics such as page views and session duration

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and operate the CA Power Outages service
  • Send push notifications for power outages near your saved locations
  • Manage your subscription and billing
  • Sync your settings across devices (Premium subscribers)
  • Respond to support requests
  • Improve the service

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3. Data Storage

Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure in the United States. We use DynamoDB for account and notification data, and AWS Cognito for authentication.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Apple Sign In / Google Sign In — for authentication. Subject to Apple's and Google's respective privacy policies.
  • Stripe — for payment processing on the web. We do not store credit card information. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
  • Mapbox — for map rendering. Subject to Mapbox's Privacy Policy.
  • Cal OES ArcGIS — public outage data source. No personal data is shared with Cal OES.

5. Push Notifications

If you enable push notifications on iOS, your device's APNs token and saved location coordinates are stored on our servers solely for the purpose of sending outage alerts. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings or by cancelling your Premium subscription.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Push notification logs are automatically deleted after 7 days. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Opt out of push notifications at any time

8. Children's Privacy

CA Power Outages is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
